Leading the building of Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral
In Deerfield Beach, Alex Lukianov helps guide the parish’s organizational development and a $10 million campaign for a permanent cathedral complex.
His role
Lay leadership supporting clergy and parish
Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral in Deerfield Beach is a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. The cathedral identifies Lukianov as president, starosta (church warden), and a member of the parish council. He also serves as vice chairman of its Capital Campaign Advisory Committee. These are lay leadership positions supporting the cathedral’s clergy, parish community, and development program.
Lukianov plays a central role in the cathedral’s development, overseeing construction progress, coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, and municipal authorities, and working closely with parish leadership to establish a permanent spiritual and cultural home for the growing Orthodox community in South Florida.
His wife, Katya, serves the cathedral as choir conductor and a parish council member.

The vision
More than a church building
The Cultural Center–Parish Hall will provide space for Divine services, fellowship, Sunday school, Orthodox education, children’s programs, concerts, and cultural events while the larger cathedral project continues.
The broader vision extends beyond the construction of a church building. Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral is being developed as a center of Orthodox Christian worship, education, sacred music, and cultural life, serving both present and future generations. Plans include dedicated spaces for religious instruction, community gatherings, and choral study and performance. The cathedral is also intended to become a permanent home for PaTRAM’s activities, bringing together Lukianov’s longstanding commitment to Orthodox sacred music and his leadership in parish development.
For Lukianov, the $10 million Cathedral Campaign represents the culmination of a lifelong commitment to building institutions that endure. Drawing upon decades of experience leading medical-technology companies and supporting Orthodox religious and cultural initiatives, he is helping establish a lasting spiritual, educational, and cultural legacy for the Orthodox community in South Florida.
