Alexis V. “Alex” Lukianov is a medical technology entrepreneur and executive whose career has centered on orthopedic and spinal surgery. His work spans company leadership, the commercialization of surgical technologies, and board service across the medical-device industry. Alongside that career, he has maintained a commitment to Orthodox Christian community life and sacred music.

In South Florida, he serves as president and church warden of Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral in Deerfield Beach, helping guide the parish’s organizational development and building initiatives.

Early life and family

Born in New York City, Lukianov is a first-generation American raised within the Russian Orthodox faith and Russian cultural traditions. His father, Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov, combined a career in civil engineering with decades of priestly service. Father Valery engineered and built St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell, New Jersey, establishing a family connection between professional expertise and the creation of enduring religious institutions.
Lukianov’s background includes service in the United States Navy and studies at Rutgers University. His professional life subsequently developed around the medical-device industry, where his responsibilities increasingly involved introducing technologies, building businesses, and working with surgeons.
He and his wife, Katherine, known as Katya, first met at age thirteen at a Russian-American summer camp in upstate New York. Their friendship preceded their marriage, and they have four children. Their shared interests in Orthodox worship, choral music, and the performing arts have become important features of their philanthropic work.

A career built on specialized surgical technology

Best known for his tenure as chairman and chief executive officer of NuVasive, Lukianov has more than 35 years of executive experience. His career has focused on building companies, advancing spine care, and bringing innovative surgical technologies to market, spanning orthopedic devices, minimally invasive surgery, and emerging medical technology businesses.
